British Water accreditation

Here at Bates Environmental, we have recently become BW2 (British Water) accredited - the highest grade currently available within British Water. BW is the largest and leading representative for the supply chain of the water and wastewater industry. Accredited BW members can include suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, consultants, research organisations and water companies.

Sean Bates, Manager of Bates Environmental, said: “We received the British Water accreditation in 2017 although this was the old format. We re-qualified and have now been given the BW2 version in March 2021.

“It means we have been assessed not only on our knowledge, but we hold a host of servicing related qualifications. We also have had our services checked and audited on-site by British Water representatives, which means the customer can be assured that the service we carry out is competent and to the highest standard.”

The reason this is so significant in our industry is that the Environment Agency (EA) in England are showing increasing concern about the potential amount of pollution water companies and sewage treatment plants could cause. So, in order to become more environmentally conscious, Bates Environmental is working with British Water - they only work with companies that are accredited by environmental regulators. Working with BW is regarded as an important step in the prevention of pollution as together we can develop training surrounding pollution and hopefully can reduce our carbon footprint in the process. An Accredited Service Engineer, like ourselves here at Bates Environmental, can be relied upon to ensure your treatment plant functions in line with current BW regulations.

Over the last few years, British Water has been working hard to raise the standards, surrounding pollution, in the service and maintenance of small sewage treatments across the UK. Consequently, the British Water Wastewater Treatment Plant Accredited Service Technicians qualification has been updated and there is now a new set of requirements and a new mandatory, practical knowledge assessment module in place in order to obtain the certification. To gain this accreditation, you will need to satisfy three elements: Qualifications Required, Relevant Job Packs and Onsite Assessment. We had previously received our BW1 and in order to keep up to date with any changing requirements, those previously accredited will be required to conduct the BW2 assessment every three years.
